Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto presided over the funeral of Major (posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar at Cikutra Heroes’ Cemetery in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday. Major Iskandar was one of three Indonesian peacekeeping officers who died in Lebanon last March while serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

During the ceremony, General Subiyanto remarked, “May this become his path of devotion that will grant him a place by Almighty God.” The fallen peacekeeper was laid to rest with full military honors, featuring a ceremonial procession and a formal volley salute.

Among the prominent officials attending the service were Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, and Commander of Military Regional Command III/Siliwangi Major General Kosasih. After the burial, the military commander and other government representatives extended their final respects to Major Iskandar’s family.

Major Iskandar, who held the rank of captain prior to his posthumous promotion, was killed alongside Chief Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan and Second Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon in the attacks on UNIFIL.

Earlier, President Prabowo paid his respects to the fallen soldiers during a lying-in-state ceremony held on Saturday at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang. Subsequently, their coffins were transported to their hometowns for burial.

Chief Sergeant Ichwan was interred in Magelang, and Second Corporal Rhomadhon’s funeral took place in Kulon Progo, while Major Iskandar was buried in Bandung. Indonesia has strongly condemned the attacks on its peacekeepers and has urged a comprehensive investigation through an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
