Nusantara, Indonesia’s developing new capital in East Kalimantan, has welcomed approximately 50 staff members of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who have commenced work to establish administrative functions at the Vice Presidential Palace. The update was provided by Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN), during a visit to the East Kalimantan Governor’s Office in Samarinda on Monday.

Mr. Hadimuljono outlined OIKN’s intensified efforts to accelerate development within Nusantara’s Government Core Area (KIPP). He confirmed that construction is progressing on facilities designated for executive, legislative, and judicial institutions.

The OIKN chief affirmed that the development of buildings for the House of Representatives (DPR) and judicial facilities remains consistent with the construction roadmap established in 2022. This government infrastructure development runs concurrently with the construction of residential complexes, which will house state workers relocating to the new capital. Technical recommendations for these processes will be provided by the Ministry of Public Works.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka previously conducted an on-site review of various development projects in Nusantara in late December 2025. Following his two-day visit, the Vice President indicated that the government aims to finalize the legislative and judicial complexes by 2027 at the earliest. This timeline aligns with the broader objective to formally designate Nusantara as Indonesia’s political capital the following year.

President Prabowo Subianto set this overarching timeline. During his inaugural visit to the city as head of state in January 2026, he received a direct briefing from the OIKN chief on recent advancements. President Subianto urged the acceleration of construction efforts and directed OIKN to refine its development strategies, specifically highlighting the need to address potential heat waves and mitigate wildfire risks.
