Indonesia Demands Meta, Google Complete ‘PP Tunas’ Papers

Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, has directed Meta and Google to finalize and submit required documents, following recent inquiries into their alleged non-compliance with child protection regulations. The directive comes after the ministry questioned the two technology companies earlier this week regarding suspected breaches of national rules.

Speaking at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Minister Hafid confirmed that the companies now have a three-day period to complete the necessary documentation based on the examinations conducted. She underscored the government’s expectation of positive developments regarding the platforms’ adherence to the provisions outlined in the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection, known as PP Tunas.

The ministry’s Director General of Digital Space Oversight, Alexander Sabar, stated that separate examinations were held for Meta and Google on Monday and Tuesday. During these sessions, each company was presented with 29 questions as part of an investigation into the alleged regulatory violations.

The summons for both companies was issued following their reported failure to comply with the PP Tunas regulation and its specific implementing rules. Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, which serves as the executive regulation for PP Tunas, was also cited as having been violated.

Under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, platforms operated by Meta, including Threads, Facebook, and Instagram, along with Google’s YouTube, are classified as high-risk services. This classification obliges them to implement stringent measures to restrict children’s access to their services and content.
