Tubi, the streaming service owned by Fox, announced Tuesday the launch of its native application directly within ChatGPT. This new integration aims to provide users with an easier method to explore Tubi’s extensive catalog, which features over 300,000 movies and television episodes.
While other prominent streaming services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, have explored artificial intelligence for content recommendations within their own platforms, Tubi marks the first major streaming provider to develop a dedicated user experience directly inside ChatGPT.
Accessing the feature involves installing the Tubi app from the ChatGPT app store. Users can then initiate requests by typing “@Tubi” in a prompt, followed by natural-language queries. For instance, they might ask for “a thriller for girls’ night” or “something funny,” receiving immediate, personalized recommendations linked to titles available on Tubi.
This development occurs amid heightened competition in the streaming industry. With a vast array of entertainment choices available, content discovery has become a significant hurdle for platforms vying for audience attention. Many services have introduced social media-inspired features to maintain user engagement, reflecting evolving consumption habits.
Tubi’s current initiative builds upon earlier experimentation with AI. In 2023, the company rolled out “Rabbit AI,” a ChatGPT-powered feature within its mobile app that offered personalized recommendations based on specific user questions. However, this tool was discontinued the following year.
The new ChatGPT integration signifies a strategic shift, suggesting Tubi’s focus on engaging users within established AI environments rather than developing similar capabilities in-house. ChatGPT reported 900 million weekly active users in February, while Tubi notes over 100 million monthly active users.
In related news, Tubi recently introduced the “Creatorverse Incubator,” an initiative designed to support emerging content creators. The program offers promotional backing and potential funding for original shows slated for exclusive release on the platform.
OpenAI initially enabled developers to create applications within ChatGPT last October. Since then, numerous companies have launched integrations, including Booking.com, Canva, DoorDash, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow. SeatGeek was among the recent additions prior to Tubi.
