Indonesia and India are advancing discussions to forge closer collaboration in higher education, with a particular focus on the fields of business and economics. This strategic initiative seeks to expand access to high-quality educational opportunities and reinforce cooperative ties between the two nations.
These prospects were a central theme during a meeting held in Jakarta on Wednesday. Indonesian Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto met with Indian Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty, accompanied by a delegation from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The discussions centered on establishing robust academic partnerships.
Minister Yuliarto welcomed the proposed collaboration, identifying it as a crucial step towards the internationalization of higher education, especially within business and economics. He expressed an aspiration for universities in Indonesia and India to engage in diverse joint programs, particularly through collaborative research efforts in these key sectors.
Ambassador Chakravorty affirmed that the planned cooperation signifies a sustained commitment to advancing human resource development across both countries. Dinesh Kumar Unnikrishna, IIMB Director-in-Charge, highlighted the institution’s expertise as a research-based business school. He stated that their collaborative efforts would specifically target areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the development of modern business ecosystems.
Beyond research and joint programs, the participants in Wednesday’s meeting also discussed opportunities to introduce a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in Indonesia. Through this multifaceted approach, the Indonesian Higher Education Ministry hopes the partnership will cultivate a learning ecosystem that is both innovative and globally competitive.
The collaborative framework is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of higher education institutions in both nations. Furthermore, it aims to foster and create adaptive, innovative, and globally competitive research avenues for students, thereby enriching the academic landscape and preparing future professionals for a dynamic global economy.
