Grobogan, Central Java – Flooding affected 3,176 families across 16 villages in Grobogan District, Central Java, following heavy rainfall on Thursday night. The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) promptly initiated a response to the natural disaster, which impacted five sub-districts.
Wahyu Tri Darmawanto, head of the Grobogan BPBD, reported on Friday that the floods inundated communities in Kedungjati, Tanggungjarjo, Gubug, Tegowanu, and Purwodadi sub-districts. The severe weather, characterized by rainfall from afternoon to evening, led to the overflow of the Tuntang, Serang, and Kliteh Rivers.
Kedungjati Sub-district was identified as the most severely affected area. Floodwaters there reached depths of 10 to 50 centimeters, impacting 2,102 families across nine villages. Additionally, eleven homes in villages such as Ngombak and Kedungjati sustained minor damage.
In Gubug Sub-district, two villages experienced floodwaters up to 60 centimeters deep, affecting approximately 814 households. Tegowanu Sub-district saw around 200 homes submerged, resulting in the suspension of activities at an elementary school. Meanwhile, in Tanggungharjo Sub-district, the overflowing Kliteh River displaced 60 households in Sugihmanik Village and caused traffic disruptions in Mrisi Village. Purwodadi Sub-district reported a 100-meter section of road in Candisari Village submerged by 20-25 centimeter deep waters.
The BPBD deployed personnel, equipment, and tools to the affected regions, collaborating with volunteers, residents, and local authorities. Collaborative efforts also included reinforcing the Tuntang River embankment in Ringinharjo Village, Gubug.
While most floodwaters have begun to recede, allowing some residents to resume their daily routines, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant. The risk of further heavy rainfall persists, necessitating ongoing caution from the community.
