The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower has announced a new initiative to recognize and reward companies that facilitate competency certification for participants in its National Internship program. Businesses committed to this will receive incentives, including preferential program access and other benefits.

Minister Yassierli stated on Tuesday that the policy’s core objective is to ensure internships provide more than just work experience. He emphasized that participants should emerge with recognized competencies, validated by certifications from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), aligning their skills with job market demands.

The Minister highlighted the strategic role of the business sector in cultivating a job-ready workforce by assisting interns in acquiring these essential certifications. This collaborative approach is intended to foster stronger partnerships among the government, participating companies, and interns, leading to more tangible and measurable outcomes.

Darmawansyah, Director General of Vocational Training and Productivity, further explained that this policy aims to ensure internship participants meet current industry standards. He expressed appreciation for companies that support certification, noting its importance in guaranteeing standardized competencies recognized across various industries.

Companies that actively support certification initiatives will be prioritized in future internship programs and gain broader access to employment-related services. The National Internship program currently involves approximately 100,000 participants placed across various companies, ministries, and institutions nationwide.

The initial cohort, comprising 14,952 participants, is scheduled to complete their internships on April 19, 2026. Participants who complete a minimum of six months will be awarded competency certificates, while those undertaking at least three months will receive letters of participation. The ministry plans to continuously expand access to certification through ongoing partnerships with professional certification bodies and industry stakeholders.
