Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has implemented extensive security measures for the impending arrival of the remains of three Indonesian peacekeepers killed during a United Nations mission in southern Lebanon. A joint force of 90 personnel, comprising police, military, and aviation security officers, has been deployed across the airport.
Airport police chief Senior Commissioner Wisnu Wardana confirmed that security operations cover critical areas including the landing zone, access routes to Terminal 3, and the VVIP lounge, where a memorial ceremony is scheduled to take place. Wardana also noted that security protocols could be heightened, with military personnel taking the lead and police providing support, should President Prabowo Subianto attend the ceremony. He affirmed the airport’s overall safety and stability ahead of the repatriation.
The three soldiers, Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, First Sergeant Muhammad Nur, and Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, died on March 29. They were serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) when Israeli strikes impacted UNIFIL positions in the region, also leaving five other personnel injured. Each of the fallen soldiers has been posthumously promoted by one rank in recognition of their service.
Their remains are expected to arrive at Terminal 3 via a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul, Turkiye. Following the memorial ceremony, where President Prabowo is scheduled to pay his final respects, the bodies will be transported to their respective hometowns through Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta.
Earlier, on April 2, a tribute ceremony was held in Beirut, led by UNIFIL Force Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara. The event, hosted at a Lebanese Air Force hangar, saw the attendance of Indonesian diplomats, United Nations representatives, and Lebanese military officials.
