The Indonesian Navy warship KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 (REM-331) has returned to Ambon, Maluku, following its participation in Exercise Kakadu 2026 in Australia. The multinational drill is a routine event organized by the Royal Australian Navy, designed to foster international maritime defense cooperation.
Rear Admiral Hanarko Djodi Pamungkas, Commander of Naval Region Command IX, officially welcomed the vessel at Tawiri Pier on Saturday. He emphasized the exercise’s vital role in bolstering bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia, particularly within the maritime defense sector.
The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) joined the biennial exercise to enhance its coordination and operational capabilities in addressing complex maritime security challenges. The drill also provided a valuable platform for exchanging best practices and advancing the professionalism of naval personnel.
According to Rear Admiral Pamungkas, participation in such exercises is crucial for maintaining and improving the combat readiness of personnel and weapon systems, preparing them for potential threats at sea. KRI REM-331 engaged in various scenarios, including naval warfare, maritime law enforcement, and humanitarian operations, alongside warships from Australia and other nations.
KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 is a SIGMA 10514 class guided-missile frigate, operating under the Escort Ship Unit of Fleet Command II. It is equipped with advanced systems, including a 76 mm main gun, anti-ship missiles, and air defense weapons. Modern radar and sensor systems further support its surveillance and combat operations.
The warship also has the capacity to carry and deploy helicopters for reconnaissance and anti-submarine missions, positioning it as a key asset in Indonesia’s maritime defense strategy. Rear Admiral Pamungkas highlighted that multinational drills like Kakadu are essential for strengthening interoperability with partner navies, thereby contributing to regional stability and collective maritime security.
Now stationed in Ambon, KRI REM-331 is expected to bolster the navy’s operational presence and effectiveness across eastern Indonesian waters.
