Jakarta – Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has commended the Indonesian government for its sincere commitment to assisting peace initiatives in the Middle East. Speaking at a meeting with Indonesian Islamic figures in Jakarta on Friday, he acknowledged the nation’s readiness to serve as a facilitator amid regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Ambassador Boroujerdi highlighted Indonesia’s prompt declaration of its willingness to engage in peace efforts, describing this commitment as a crucial step towards fostering lasting stability and peace in the Middle East.
During the gathering, the ambassador also expressed appreciation for Indonesian Islamic scholar Din Syamsuddin, who attended the event. Boroujerdi recognized Syamsuddin, who leads the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations, for his notable contributions to promoting sustainable peace at both regional and global levels.
The Iranian envoy called on Muslim communities, particularly in Indonesia, to unite in opposing narratives that support military actions by the United States and Israel. He emphasized the importance of solidarity against conflicts and threats involving these nations, stating that hostility associated with Zionism is not confined to one religion.
Boroujerdi further asserted that the Israeli government opposes not only Islamic teachings but also certain Christian and Jewish groups that do not align with Zionist ideologies. He specifically cited restrictions preventing Muslims from praying at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Echoing the ambassador’s appeal, Din Syamsuddin urged unity among Indonesian Islamic organizations, the public, and the government in responding to the Middle East situation. He stressed that internal divisions, such as those between Sunni and Shia or Arab and Persian communities, should be set aside in favor of upholding brotherhood among Muslims.
