Jakarta – Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has called for enhancing the Kasepuhan Palace’s role as a center for cultural education. His recommendations include modernizing the Museum Pusaka’s exhibition layout and revitalizing its historical narrative.
Speaking on Friday after a visit to the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon, West Java, Minister Zon stated that improved literacy and dynamic presentation would enable younger generations to grasp the transformation of architecture and culture from the 15th century to the present day.
He observed that the palace’s Museum Pusaka houses an extensive and remarkable collection. The minister emphasized that its historical narrative is a national treasure and requires strengthening. While acknowledging the museum’s current quality, he suggested improvements in its storytelling and exhibition arrangement, particularly lighting, to create a more engaging experience.
Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Raja Adipati Sultan Sepuh XV Luqman Zulkaedin welcomed the minister’s visit. The Sultan noted that the palace, founded by Sunan Gunung Jati, is approximately 600 years old. He also highlighted that the Cirebon Sultanate is a continuation of the Pajajaran Kingdom, making it older than the palaces in Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
The palace complex spans around 25 hectares and is surrounded by brick walls originally built by Prince Cakrabuana. Within the complex are structures such as Siti Inggil, the Candi Bentar gate, the Museum Pusaka, and the main palace building. The minister’s visit is anticipated to increase the palace’s relevance as a hub for cultural and educational activities.
