Indonesia’s transmigration program is undergoing a strategic reorientation to align with President Prabowo Subianto’s eight-point Asta Cita agenda, emphasizing regional development, poverty alleviation, and national resilience. Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi affirmed this approach on Wednesday.

The ministry is actively translating this national policy into practical community empowerment initiatives. These efforts are designed to elevate living standards in transmigration areas through enhancements in public services, education, and healthcare. Mauladi highlighted these implementation strategies during a statement in Gorontalo District, Gorontalo Province.

Key infrastructure projects are also underway in these zones, encompassing school renovations, land development, agricultural irrigation support, and the construction of protective embankments. The government is committed to ensuring equitable welfare for both transmigrants and existing local residents, a principle enshrined in Law No. 29 of 2009 on transmigration.

As a distinct institution, the ministry operates with four core mandates. Firstly, it facilitates the relocation of populations from densely inhabited regions to less populated areas. This process aims to bolster regional resilience and promote social integration, thereby strengthening national unity.

Secondly, the program endeavors to reduce poverty by granting participants access to land and fostering economic opportunities. Thirdly, it supports the nation’s push for food self-sufficiency, leveraging transmigration areas often located in prime agricultural zones to boost domestic food production and fortify supply chains. Efforts are also directed at enhancing productivity within these areas through improved infrastructure and support services.

Finally, the transmigration program seeks to foster the emergence of new economic growth centers across the archipelago. Officials believe developing these areas can help mitigate regional disparities and alleviate demographic pressure on crowded urban centers. The government plans to continuously refine the program, emphasizing coordination with local governments and communities, and closely monitoring outcomes to ensure its long-term social and economic efficacy.
