President Prabowo Subianto has stated that his recent and upcoming international visits are primarily focused on securing crucial oil supplies for Indonesia, citing intensifying risks to global distribution. Addressing around 800 senior officials, including ministers, agency heads, and security leaders, at a government work meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, he dismissed suggestions that his travels were ceremonial or for leisure.
“I have to travel here and there to secure oil supply,” President Prabowo explained, emphasizing that rising geopolitical tensions necessitate robust engagement with international partners to safeguard energy security, which he deemed critical for economic stability.
The President recently visited Japan from March 29 to 31 and South Korea from March 31 to April 1. These visits centered on strengthening economic resilience, including collaboration in the energy sector. He also indicated plans for an upcoming trip to another country to expand Indonesia’s options for oil procurement.
This strategic direction, he noted, is consistent with Indonesia’s long-standing “free and active” foreign policy, aimed at maintaining balanced relations and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation. The government seeks to diversify its supply sources to reduce vulnerability to external shocks.
President Prabowo reiterated that ensuring stable energy supplies remains a top priority amidst uncertainties in global markets. Despite international pressures, he expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic outlook, asserting that the nation is entering a period of strong prospects even as other countries face challenges linked to geopolitical tensions.
He added that the government continues to strengthen policy coordination to anticipate potential disruptions. President Prabowo also acknowledged the significant demands of his position, stressing that leadership requires unwavering commitment.
