Singapore Management University (SMU) has been recognized as the world’s most improved institution among universities with at least ten ranked subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The latest results highlight significant advancements across its academic offerings.

Eight out of the ten subjects evaluated for SMU achieved improved global standings this year, indicating broad-based progress across various disciplines. This marks a period of consistent upward movement for the university.

Notably, two core areas of study at SMU have entered the global top 50. Business & Management Studies climbed to 39th worldwide, while Accounting & Finance secured the 50th position.

The university’s Law program showed the most substantial improvement within Singapore, moving up 45 places to reach 56th globally. This places it among the most significantly improved single-year subject entries in the country. The Yong Pung How School of Law is preparing to mark its 20th anniversary next year.

With these gains, SMU now features in the global top 60 for four subjects: Business & Management Studies, Accounting & Finance, Economics & Econometrics, and Law.

At a broader level, SMU’s Social Sciences & Management category entered the global top 100, advancing 89 places to 86th worldwide. This makes it the most improved among Singaporean universities in this aggregate category for the current year.

The QS Quacquarelli Symonds rankings for this year analyzed over 21,000 academic programs from approximately 1,900 institutions across 100 countries. The assessment covered 55 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.
